Project Description

One of the top tourist destinations in Northern Ireland the Game of Thrones studio tour allows fans to immerse themselves in the original sets and costumes from the popular TV show.

The Studio building itself comprises of a 110,000 square foot building which is heated with two wood pellet boilers and air handling units. For this project Biomass Silo Systems provided a 24.0 ton capacity pellet silo with dimensions – 2.4m X 4.8m X 5.2m high.

This silo was supplied with 2 X 60 degree hopper bases which eliminated the need for periodic cleaning of dust from the silo. The silo itself was installed inside a basement and was not usually visible so we supplied a weigh cell system to give constant communication of the current fuel level to a building management system to ensure that the silo will never run out of fuel. In order to install the weigh cell system a galvanised mounting frame was manufactured and the silo was built on top of the frame.

Succesfull installation of this low carbon heating system along with a number of other sustainable initiatives on the site has allowed the Game Of Thrones studio tour to win the prestigious UK Sustainable Tourism Provider of the year award.
