Project Description
Beckman Coulter is a multinational medical device company located in Clare, Ireland. During the recent expansion of their facility, they employed a local company ‘Enerpower’ to install a 550kw multi-fuel wood boiler capable of running on both wood chip and wood pellet which would provide heating to the new 6,700 square meter building.
Enerpower approached Biomass Silo Systems to design, manufacture and install a suitable wood chip silo and loading system for this project.
We installed a 90m3 wood chip silo made from galvanized steel and a loading auger capable of transporting wood chips from a tipper truck into the silo at a speed of 45m3 per hour.
The wood chip used to heat their new buildings is all locally produced which has allowed Beckman Coulter to save over 50% on heating costs in comparison with a fossil fuel boiler while simultaneously benefiting the local economy and reducing their carbon footprint.
