Project Description

Meden School is a large secondary school in the East Midlands of the UK with approximately 860 pupils. They decided to replace their old coal boilers and replace them with two wood chip boilers using locally sourced wood chip to provide all of the heating needs for the school and nearby sports centre.

For this project Biomass Silo Systems were contracted to supply and install an 80m3 wood chip silo powder coated to match the colour of the school and boiler cabin and a loading auger for taking tipped deliveries of wood chip and transferring into the silo.

Successful implementation of this project has resulted in savings of close to 1,000 tonnes of carbon per year providing a positive impact on the local environment and government incentives have allowed the school to make large savings in their energy bills.
